MAKE YOUR HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES HEALTHY

Healthy sources of protein
Healthy sources of protein

Different nuts do different things. But I’m sure you already knew that. I think sometimes when we hear that nuts are good for your health, we eat the whole package in one sitting, which is not uncommon with other foods too.

But that’s not how it works. Moderation is key. And stay away from highly sugared and salted nuts.

I had my sister (who’s allergic to nuts but is a health nut) and Krista share with me their go-to smoothies and juices.

My sister is pretty good at eating on a budget, usually…aside from her impulsive Oreos and cake purchases. Anywho, every time I visit she has a new concoction for me to try. She’s really into juicing as she loves the detox aspect to it.

Bloating Away

One beet, three large carrots, and an inch long piece of ginger.

This recipe requires a juicer and doesn’t involve nuts but is a good remedy for a bloat-type day.

Butter my Almond

Put 16 ounces of almonds into a food processor and press start. Blend for about five minutes to allow the oils to release.

Almond butter is a fancier and sweeter way to dress your bread. It’s a huge source of protein and helps in weight loss and management.

Eat your Greenies!

Kale, blueberries, prunes, goji berries which are antioxidants, flax, pumpkin, sunflower seeds, spirulina, SUPER ELIXIER supplement by Elle Macpherson, and either coconut water, water or almond milk.

Almond milk includes unsaturated fats, protein and omega-3 fatty acids. It doesn’t raise cholesterol and is good for individuals with heart problems.

TIP: Krista has a container already mixed with flax, pumpkin and sunflower seeds for a quick make.

The Cocoa Canon

Cocoa powder, cocoa nibs, maca powder, vanilla, himalayan pink salt, dates, cashews and brazil nuts (act as the milk), and water if you so please.

Cashews include a good level of protein, iron and zinc. They help with memory problems also. Brazil nuts are ideal for those with low thyroid function. Brazil nuts have selenium which supports immunity and helps produce the thyroid hormone.

TIP: Some people like to add frozen bananas or COYO coconut yogurt for a thicker texture.

Throw your ingredients into a food extractor and enjoy! If you have any great recipes you think I should feature, do comment below!
