We’ve cast our eyes on some gorgeous lipsticks recently – and been trying out a few here at the BATD office – and wanted to share them with you. Whether you’re a lover of a long-lasting matte lip, or a nourishing shiny lip – we put on a selection of both. I am a fan of the liquid matte lipsticks and Krista loves her shiny, moisturising lippies. So we have put together a few of our favourites right now that are definitely worth trying out and slathering onto your lips as soon as possible. And hey, it’s national lipstick day today right?
THE MATTE LIP
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick, £23

This one is richly pigmented and has a silky smooth, and matte texture. Hourglass definitely delivers a lip colour for continuous wear without flaking or any dryness. It feels like butter to apply, isn’t sticky, and doesn’t dry out your lips. It sets to a matte finish but keeps its flexibility, so eating, talking, drinking = no fear, it stays. This is from it’s innovative formula; which contains skin-conditioning emolients, anti-oxidant fruit extracts and Vitamins A, C and E to help protect and condition your lips throughout the day. It has a vibrant colour in one swoosh, and lasts really well.
Ciate Liquid Velvet Lipstick, £17
This is really like applying velvet onto your lips. It is soft, matte, and creamy. We like this one because it is a non-drying formula that conditions whilst keeping the velvety texture. It is highly pigmented, and has a precision tip to make applying this formula both easy and flawless. We know it’s long lasting, as Madeline here put it to the ultimate test, and had it on for the duration of our proper indulgent dinner (it was pie and chips with gravy all over, we are talking major) and it was still there at the end of the meal. What more can I say?
Stila Stay all Day Liquid Lipstick, £16
The first thing I have to rage about for this one – is the colour. The photo doesn’t even do it justice, it is so vibrant and gorgeous you’ll definitely stand out in a crowd with this one. This particular colour here is called ‘Amalfi’, a bright (very slight coral)-pink and they have a range of colours to choose from in the range. This formula is thicker and very creamy, delivering an intense, rich shade. It doesn’t bleed or move, and is enriched with Vitamin E and avocado oil. It feels so weightless on, and a little goes a long way. And it smells sweet too, which is a plus!
THE SHINY LIP
Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Creamy Colourbalms, £19.50
These are Laura Mercier’s newest addition to her lip range- available in 12 shades, the ultra-sheer Lip Parfaits give the comfort of a lip balm, the coverage of a lipstick, and the shine of a gloss. All in one. The packaging is particularly lovely too, compact and neat with Laura Mercier’s signature on the inside. The Colourbalms lip-balmy formula gives a succulent, wet-shine look in just one stroke. Their lightweight texture is non-sticky and creamy, leaving a long-lasting finish.
Arbonne Smoothed Over Lipsticks, £20

The company has launched a new line of vegan friendly, animal-cruelty free lipsticks, lip glosses and lip liners. Each product is named after a flower traditionally found in an English country garden (which we think is just charming) and uses botanically based ingredients within it’s formulas. The luxurious texture evenly distributes the rich colour with a satin gloss finish. These lipsticks are designed to moisturise, whilst plumping and volumising, as they contain peptides and a naturally derived complex of fruit extracts, imparting a natural plumping effect. Ideal for those looking to achieve the perfect pout.
