I am always looking for mascara that will make my lashes look long, thick, juicy, and stay on all day. I thought I’d pretty much found it when I discovered a good one from YSL. Then I realised they sell it in packs of two. It dries out after two weeks.
Bobbi Brown’s Smokey Eye Mascara (£22.50) was an unexpected hit. I love it for its longevity and its dark matt appeal.
I love the one from Trish McEvoy which comes with a thick fat brush which makes your eyelashes thick and fat – for about 20 minutes. This one is also over in two weeks, not because it’s dried up, but because I’ve used all of it.
So I was very excited when Lancôme came out with a the Lancôme Grandiôse Mascara (£24.50), tag line ‘Bending the mascara rules.’ Thus called because it comes with a quirky bent brush which means you can get in to inner and outer corners and curve the lashes up so it’s halfway between a mascara wand and an eyelash curler.

It is quite a workout and then you can start all over again for a night time look. They warn that getting the initial starting position right is essential so you can get the grandiose brush to the root of the lashes. They advise slow regular strokes and rotating your wrists and extending the lashes using a zigzag motion.
To be honest it’s a bit too much like a jazz dance class for me who is dyslexic and doesn’t know right from left. That said if you want a mascara that’s going to stay on all night this is it. It separates the lashes perfectly and extends them. There’s no clumping and no dry bits. No flaking off. But it’s all about the Swan-Neck wand and how you deliver the mascara to the lash. It’s definitely worth a try.
