If you’re a Game of Thrones Fan or have been keeping up with the BBC’s The Crimson Field, you may have already fallen under the spell of Oona Chaplin. As the rather notorious name suggests she is the granddaughter of cinema genius Charlie Chaplin, but has managed to forge an acting path for herself via her talents and determination rather than her surname.
Her father is Chilean cinematographer Patricio Castilla, her mother British-American actress Geraldine Chaplin. Oona was almost predestined to forge a career in the arts. And her nomadic lifestyle made the transition from student to actress rather easier. Travelling for both of her parents’ careers, Oona was born in Madrid and spent her childhood between Spain, Switzerland and Cuba.

She’s a dancer, proficient in ballet, salsa and flamenco. Oh and she’s a RADA grad. Thought we’d add that to the mix. TV series seem to have been her main conquest so far, though we don’t say that lightly. Star in Game of Thrones and you may as well attach yourself permanently to a red carpet. It’s her role as Kitty in BBC1’s The Crimson Field, however, that really drew her to the attention of Beauty And The Dirt. Her character is beautiful and enigmatic, and the sexual tension between her and the resident Scottish Doc of dreams is enthralling. We’re hooked, on the series, and on Ms Oona Chaplin.
We’re keeping our eyes trained on her. She’s due to star in the latest Nicholas Sparks movie remake The Longest Ride in 2015, which if its predecessors (The Notebook, The Last Song, Lucky One) are anything to go by, will be rather a hit at the box office.
