Little girls love playing dress-up, but four-year-old Mayhem takes it much more seriously than her peers. The young American prefers crafting her own versions of red-carpet designer dresses out of paper! Of course, mom Angie lends a helping hand in the process, and as a professional photographer, documents every outfit. The result is Fashion by Mayhem, which is possibly the world’s cutest fashion blog.

It all started when Angie, an avid Instagram user, suggested that the two make a dress out of paper. It was such a success that she decided to share it online, and chose to give her daughter the nickname “Mayhem” out of concern for privacy on the web. Now, the mother-daughter duo have been making paper dresses on a regular basis for months, using supplies like construction paper, feathers, foil, tissue paper, wrapping paper, and always lots of glue and tape.
“Cutting and taping paper is about all we do. And the most ironic part of this whole project is that…in reality, I know nothing about fashion and cannot sew a straight line to save my life,” Angie said in an interview. “Mayhem constructs a lot more than most people would probably believe. That’s one of the best things about this project, I see her learning new skills every single day.”
They seek inspiration for their creations from awards show dresses and the costumes of Mayhem’s favorite characters, including Disney princesses.

“After we made our first paper dress, Mayhem requested another the very next day. Then another the day after that. And no one is more surprised than I am, that she still wants to make them nearly 9 months later,” said Angie. “I have no idea if it will continue, but as long as she wants to make them, we’ll keep doing it.”
We read about this story earlier today on Buzzfeed, and decided we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share it here on Beauty and the Dirt. The timing is perfect, as well, since Paris Fashion Week is well underway. We only wish that some of Mayhem’s original designs could have made it onto the catwalk!
