After Sunday’s Oscar Awards Ceremony, social media was going wild for Tiffany Haddish. If we’re being honest, we completely understand why. What’s not to love?
She wowed on the red carpet in a traditional Eritrean princess dress to honour her father and people. Later in the night, she presented two Oscars later in the white Alexander McQueen gown that she had worn to the premiere of her movie, Girls Trip, and when she’d hosted Saturday Night Live, saying “I don’t give a dang about no Taboo!” when people questioned the choice.
The fact that she seems so unlike most of Hollywood is probably due to the fact that the star has four younger siblings who she helped to raise after a car wreck left their mum unable to do so. She worked hard and faced many challenges growing up. Tiffany’s social worker presented her with two choices when it seemed like she was slipping down a dangerous path, therapy or comedy camp.
Even though she knew comedy was her calling, it didn’t get much easier for Haddish after camp. That didn’t stop her. She made a list of the stars she wanted to work with one day when she was in a rough spot, living in her car while working the LA comedy circuit.
On that list was Jada Pinkett Smith, who Haddish worked with in Girls Trip. Now, she has roles alongside Kevin Hart and Tracy Morgan coming up! The star says the moment she knew she’d made it was when she began doing stand up on the Arsenio Hall Show, a show she had loved growing up.
Tiffany is just like all of us. She loves Beyonce–they took a selfie at a party together last year–and Brad Pitt! She told Kelly Ripa backstage that he said he’d want to date her, but only if they were both single in a year. Plus, she even dreams of being a “Baby Oprah” with her own production company and even a channel.
Haddish is proof for us that dreams can come true with hard work, and we love that she reminds us it’s okay to re-wear even the boldest of statement dresses, saying she wears “what I want, when I want, however many times I want, as long as I’ve Febreezed it!”
It’s official. Tiffany, will you be our new best friend??
