After the poshness of London Fashion Week and the go, go, go of New York Fashion Week, we were more than excited to get the lively Italian twist on fall ready to wear fashion through in Milan. Rich, jewel-toned colors, fun and flirty textures, major fur moments, and period inspired collections were the focuses of Fendi, Roberto Cavalli, I’m Isola Marras, and Max Mara‘s collections. We’ve put together some of the best runway moments and backstage pics of Milan Fashion Week so far, and are excited for you to see them too!
Fendi

Kendall Jenner opened the show in a glorious navy jacket with emerald and aqua collar, and bright aqua boots that covered her entire legs. From that first look, we were instantly in love with Fendi’s A/W 2016 collection. Jackets took centerstage in this collection as bright colors and exciting patterns covered model after model. Big volume added big drama with coats of all styles from shifts to trench coats, all of which had at least a hint of that bright Italian flare.

Bright aqua accents were a focus thorughout the collection which brought a lively edge to the typical fall colors. Texture was also a huge focus, and these shoes highlight the main texture, ruffles.

Rich, jewel tones brought Fendi’s newest collection into the fall season in the most indulgent way. Warm camel browns, rich emerald greens, soft navys, and vibrant aquas made this collection a dream for anyone who doesn’t want to look dull come the fall seasons. Ruffles and babydoll accents from the necklines to the sleeves, to outer skirts added feminine flare to the retro collection. We’re excited to see how we can interpret these new trends into our fall wardrobes!
Roberto Cavalli

Our dream 70’s closet just became a reality thanks to Roberto Cavalli’s A/W 2016 collection. This show paid homage to so many of our favorite elements of the 70’s from hippies, to rock, to really anything The Rolling Stones wore in their Golden Age (we’re talking to you, skinny scarves and bell bottoms). Cavalli found a way to make this collection rich and warm by adding indulgent velours, silky scarves, luxurious furs, and sheer chiffons, all of which work together effortlessly. Jackets were also a key element of pulling together the 70’s wardrobe, with floor length, fur dawning coats, metallic cropped jackets, and even the occasional denim detail brought us back to the free-flowing style we love so much.

Gowns of all types were scattered throughout Roberto Cavalli’s collection, in a gypsy glam style that we think Rihanna or Kate Hudson (can you say Almost Famous round 2?) would absolutely rock. Speaking of rock, even the gowns in this collection contain the old school 70’s rocker edge while maintaining a gorgeous fall palette. We are excited to see if any of these dresses will end up on the red carpet.
I’m Isola Marras

Not the biggest name in Italian fashion, the I’m Isola Marras show made sure this designer was one to watch. Inspired by empowered women movements of the early 20th century as well as Russian Constructivism, this textured and colorful collection is just what Milan Fashion Week needed to charm and impress guests. Vivid pattern making, playful structures, and an excellent choice of color palette had us coveting the detailed jackets and fur accents.

To even further depict the inspiration of the collection, the finale was filled with decorative flags in support of powerful females being waved by the models, transforming their ensembles into colorful and modern suffragettes. We loved this idea and the show left us feeling empowered, something more fashion should aim to do.
Max Mara

Long coats, dark detailing, and pops of colors were the core of this retro inspired collection from Max Mara. Italians are often known for their bright colors and over the top outfits, and with this new collection Max Mara kept to it’s Italian roots but had a sophisticated edge. Girl power of the 1930’s and the Industrial Age were the main influences in creating this collection, and we can see that it was entirely successful. The powerful women wearing powerful coats sure sent chills down our spines.

Warm camel brown and shining metallics blend seamlessly into Max Mara’s A/W 2016 collection. We love to see this color used for fall because it’s a perfect way to transition into the biting cold while still being reminiscent of warmer months. Each of these camel looks with metallic and monochrome details are perfectly modern twists to the industrial theme of the collection, and we couldn’t love them more.
All in all we’d say Milan Fashion Week is off to a great start with some amazing style, we can’t wait to see what’s to come!
