MOBA BANH-MI & BOULANGERIE HITS LONDON

March 27, 2015

Theodore and Thibaut of MoBa London.

Introducing the latest addition to the Charlotte Street foodie scene – MoBa. Cute name right? It’s short for Modern Bakery, clever! The MoBa men have fused traditional French bakery methods with the tastes and flavour combinations of Asian cooking.

If you’re curious, pop by, the MoBa goods will turn your head  > and we are not just talking about those charming smiles ladies 😉

Owners Theodore Charoy and Thibaut Voury met studying in Paris. Theodore has travelled as far afield as Bangkok and Phucket, and managed New York’s Oia restaurant, whilst Thibaut comes fresh from his role of head chef at Atelier Nieuportin Paris. Those are some heavy food credentials, MoBa is home to them.

We popped by to take a look at London’s newest bakery, and to wonder at the fresh baguettes, twisted viennoiseries, Banh Mi and Asian salads. Our favourites were the green tea croissants – the epitome of French and Asian fusion and the delicious speculous mango cheesecake. The perfect green breakfast treat with a twist, break open your green tea croissant with a matcha latte, that’s our recommendation. They have taken a small cafe and given it life and vibrancy with their friendly personalities and enthusiasm for their new business. It’s infectious and a tiny bit addictive, so you will find us there a lot.

We asked the guys what brought them to London, Thibaut said ‘London loves a sandwich, and while the lunchtime landscape hasn’t changed much in the past ten years, people here are really receptive to new concepts, particularly when any kind of fusion is involved.’ Theodore added ‘What we’ve created is a French boulangerie that celebrates our own home cooking, complimented by Asian flavours and ingredients. And it could only happen in London.’

Well lucky us!
