Three years ago Wes Anderson brought us the delightful Fantastic Mr. Fox, this time around, Moonrise Kingdom transports us to the summer of 1965 and tells the whimsical love story of twelve year olds Suzy Bishop and Sam Shakusky played by newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. Sam and Suzy fall in love and make a secret pact to run away together into the wilderness.
They have quite a cast of characters on the look out for them like local sheriff Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis), Khaki Scout troop leader, Scout Master Ward (Edward Norton), Mr. and Mrs. Bishop played by Bill Murray and Frances McDormand, along with Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Bob Balaban.
As the community looks for these twelve year olds, a violent storm is brewing off shore and the peaceful island community off the coast of New England is tossed up side down in every which way.
Moonrise Kingdom opened the Cannes Film Festival last night and is set to hit theaters 25 May.
