If limo-filled, palatial hotels aren’t for you, why not try a few nights at the superb Dar Al Hossoun – a garden lodge and spa (or eco-riad as I like to call it) set in the town of Taroudant, roughly a 30 minute drive inland from Agadir.
Owned by the lovely and permanent resident Olivier, Dar Al Hossoun is one of the most idyllic places I’ve ever seen. Set amidst traditional Moroccan buildings you stumble into the most incredible Botantical Gardens where guests can meander among the rare species of plants and the odd peacock, or just lounge by the pools. I say pools as there are two in separate areas of the compound, so you can spend as much (or as little!) time with your loved ones as you want. Plus, if it gets a bit too much you can hit the private spa or venture out for the day on an organised tour, or just wander around the small souk in Taroudant old town down the road.
The rooms and suites are immaculate and you can choose from a number of different locations and setups with the riads compound to suit your needs; whether that be a big family group or just a couple. The whole place is also available to be completely booked out by one group alone for over 20 guests. I can’t help but be slightly jealous of the couple getting married there the week after I left.
The best thing? The garden, it’s like paradise. Oh and the most delicious food cooked on site. Raw Papaya salad… who knew!
The worst thing? The slight drive to get to the remote location and lack of sea view… but it’s worth it.
Price: From £75 for a single occupancy room with breakfast
