No amount of heat could keep the 65,000 Londoners away from their beloved Rolling Stones at the British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park this weekend. “Anyone here who was here in 1969?” asked Jagger. And for a lucky few there was a “Welcome back – it is nice to see you again.”
The Stones’ last gig in Hyde Park was just a day earlier, 44 years ago, and attracted a crowd of 250,000, proving not just their prowess, but their staying power too.

Among the masses was a star studded VIP section – from Cara Delevingne, Vernon Kay and Tess Daly, Hayley Atwell, Gemma Arterton, Caroline Flack, Lara Stone and David Walliams, all in the Barclaycard Unwind area, to Alastair Campbell and Boris Johnson.

After playing for two hours with a set boasting much loved classics, the legendary rockers finished with the popular (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. After surveying the crowd filled with overwhelming ‘tongue and lips’ merchandise, Mick said “We’re so lucky to be here, England is the best place to be in the summer.”

And whether you made it to the gig or not, we couldn’t agree more with Jagger’s sentiments.
