The stars were out last night at the 22nd annual MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles, California. Comedian Conan O’Brien brought the laughs as he hosted the evening’s show, which was full of award presentations (obviously), musical performances and even brand-new clips from some of the summer’s most anticipated films. The coveted “Movie of the Year” award went to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and there were plenty more memorable moments on the red carpet and on stage.
Before the show, Hollywood A-listers graced the red carpet wearing some of the brightest and most fun looks we’ve seen all awards season. A few of our favorites were Ellie Goulding in a white, floor-length dress with side cutouts, Shailene Woodley in a Hunger Games-esque olive green ensemble with intense black heels, Rita Ora showing some major cleavage in a black gown (complete with pockets!), Lupita Nyong’o looking beautiful as always in a colorful pleated and abstract patterned dress, and Jessica Alba flaunting her figure in a lime green skirt and white bandeau-inspired top.
More than anything, though, all eyes were on some very stylish and furry guests. Making their paw prints on the red carpet were a number of puppies clad in outfits inspired by big films of recent years, including Anchorman 2, The Hunger Games, Man of Steel, and Spring Breakers!
Even the Internet-famous “Grumpy Cat” was a guest of honor at the event, channeling his inner fashion fiend while wearing a tiny version of Pharrell Williams’ infamous Vivienne Westwood hat.
During possibly the best moment of the entire night, Zac Efron made Rita Ora take off his shirt on stage after receiving the “Best Shirtless Performance” award for his role in That Awkward Moment. We’re not sure how Ora’s beau Calvin Harris felt about it, but who could turn down an opportunity to see Efron in all his glory?
Mila Kunis showed up with her baby bump on display as she accepted her award for “Best Villain,” and Mark Wahlberg delivered a VERY casual (and expletive-ridden!) acceptance speech for his MTV Generation Award. Paul Walker was posthumously awarded “Best On-Screen Duo” with Vin Diesel for their work in Fast and Furious 6. The late actor, who died in a car crash last November, was honored in a tribute during the ceremony.
Musical performances of the night included Eminem and Rihanna singing their hit “The Monster,” Ellie Goulding and Zedd performing songs from the Divergent soundtrack, and Twenty One Pilots. Anxious moviegoers got sneak previews and exclusive clips of upcoming summer blockbusters like X-Men: Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Fault In Our Stars.
