Well, it’s that time of the year that we’ve all been waiting for: The Edinburgh Fringe festival!
From 02-26 August, Scotland’s capital city will be crowded with Fringe visitors celebrating all things arts and entertainment at the largest arts festival in the world. Whether your tastes lie in comedy, dance, theatre, musicals, operas, exhibitions, or events, (or possibly a combination of all) you’ll be sure to find acts to please.
The month-long festival offers the option of over 2,000 shows so, understandably, Fringe decision-making is somewhat overwhelming. But don’t worry, we’ve rounded-up this year’s must-see acts.
The Shawshank Redemption
Run, don’t walk to The Assembly Rooms for this theater highlight of this year’s Fringe. From 5-25 August you can experience a modification of Stephen King’s tale, The Shawshank Redemption is both witty and poignant. A must-see drama!
In Pleasance Courtyard you will find a Belarus Free Theatre production that looks into the use of capital punishment during current times. You may want to leave the kids at home for this theatre production composed of lethal injection, electrocution, and nudity. Showing 19-26 August at 15:30.
The Tim Vine Chat show
If you’re looking for a for a relaxed, not-so-serious atmosphere, perhaps a comedy is more up your alley. And we couldn’t think of a better laugh-out-loud suggestion than The Tim Vine Chat show. But don’t waste any time getting your tickets for this 2011-12 sell out return show. Showing 5-26 August, times vary depending on the day.
Indulge yourself with one of Fringe’s most original shows: Adam Page. He’s a jack of all trades, combining vocals, beatboxing, and instruments into one performance! You won’t be disappointed with this interactive show! Showing 5-25 August at 16:50.
If you have the opportunity to be an audience member at any Ballet Central’s programme’s, take it. Ballet Central’s dancers bring sell-out UK tours, have held a respected reputation for over 28 years, and are part of the 2012 Olympics won. Must I convince you any more? Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast
Finally, after all the immersive acts, you’ll no doubt want the calm of an exhibition.
And boy, have we found the perfect one for all those looking for a slightly more mainstream topic! Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast is an internationally acclaimed exhibition, showcasing over 150 rare photographs and original magazines from Condé Nast. You will see the works by many who went on to be the biggest names in the fashion photography, along with today’s finest fashion photographers. Showing from 1 August until 1 September, times vary depending on the day.
