Hailee Steinfeld stars as high school junior, Nadine, in new coming-of-age movie, The Edge of Seventeen – an honest, candid and hilarious look at what it’s like to grow up as a young woman today.
We’ve all been through it right? Everyone knows that growing up can be hard and the smallest, most insignificant thing might seem important at the time #life. High school junior Nadine finds this out the hard way, during the peak of her awkwardness, where she compares herself to Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite (we died a little bit at this part by the way – Vote for Pedro!).
Things get even more difficult for Nadine when her older brother, Darian (Blake Jenner), starts dating her best friend, Krista (Haley Lu Richardson), and at first we really did feel for her.
Nadine’s world is falling apart as she feels she has lost her best friend. Feeling more alone than ever, with no friends to confide in, Nadine starts to rebel, stealing her mums car and sending some very explicit text messages to the school’s bad boy, who has just got out of prison. She finally manages to get his attention and he asks her to “hang out” but Nadine’s dream first date turns into a nightmare as she find out that the boy she has spent this whole time obsessing about is only after one thing and quickly discovers this is something she’s not yet ready for.
But, things start to look up as she finds herself in an unexpected friendship with a thoughtful boy (Hayden Szeto), who gives her a glimmer of hope that things may not be so terrifying after all.
