Andrew Garfield stars as Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge – the extraordinary true story of a solder during the bloodiest battle of WWII.
During WWI, Desmond Doss saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. Doss was the only American solder during WWII who fought in the front lines without a weapon. He strongly believed that while the war was justified, killing was wrong and went against his moral convictions.
The story shows his fight against violence during the war. As an army medic, Doss single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to solders and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers.
Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
