Emily Walters (Diane Keaton) is an American widow living near the beautiful Hamspstead Heath in London. After the loss of her husband, Emily seems to be struggling, just drifting through life without much though to her future, finance or relationships.
One day, while in her loft, she spots something in the distance out into the Heath where a man, Donald Horner (Brendan Gleeson), is in trouble and is being attacked by a group of thugs. Emily quickly reacts and calls the police, while spying on what goes on through her binoculars.
The following day she decides to go down to where it all happened and discovers that Donald lives in the small shack out in the woods and has been living there for 17 years. Later, she learns that his humble home is under threat as a bunch of developers are trying to get him of the land to build luxury apartments. To top it all off, Emily’s best friend Fiona is behind it all as Emily discovers she has been leading a community initiative in support of the developers.
When she hears the news, Emily steps up to take Donald’s side in the escalating battle, determined to defend the man she who might just be the person to pick her back up.
