Funny-man Jason Bateman takes on a new type of role as he stars in Netflix’s latest dark thriller, Ozark.
Bateman plays Chicago financial advisor Marty Byrde who lives a double life by also quietly laundering money for a drug kingpin. After his partner is caught cheating the business, Marty is forced to quickly uproot his wife (Laura Linney) and kids and move the operation to a summer resort community in the Missouri Ozarks. Once there, he not only faces conflict with the local drug dealer, but also with a clan of ruffians after his money. In between dealing with the competition and dodging the FBI, Marty must complete his laundering to save the lives of his entire family.
The series is filled with infidelity, corruption, murder and entrapment, but also focuses on a family struggling to find their way. In addition to playing the lead role, Jason Bateman also directed half of the episodes. After watching the thrilling trailer, I have a feeling I’m going to be binge-watching the whole thing.
Ozark launches globally on Netflix on July 21.
