In the wake of his son’s tragic death in a school shooting, grieving father Sam discovers notebooks of lyrics and demo tapes showing a musically talented side of his son he didn’t know existed. Sam finds solace in his son’s music, and makes a connection with his deceased son that helps him cope with his loss. After playing one of his son’s songs at an open mic night, Sam teams up with a young musician named Quentin to form a band and continue the healing process through performing the music his son left behind.
Rudderless stars Billy Crudup as Sam and Anton Yelchin as Quentin, with Felicity Huffman, Laurence Fishburne, Selena Gomez and William H. Macy also appearing. The film marks Macy’s directorial debut, and garnered solid reviews as the official closing film to the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
