Ewan McGregor’s back in the latest film by Australian director Julius Avery. Set down under, Son of a Gun also stars Brendon Thwaites as a young guy sent to jail for 6 months, who finds himself under the protection of a violent criminal (McGregor). But this protection on the inside carries a heavy debt of joining him in a world of crime on the outside world. Some of the scenes are brutal and violent but McGregor manages to have you on his side with that Scottish wit and charm, despite being a notorious criminal. His performance made be yearn for him to be in more films, I love his humour and delivery even in tense moments of this drama. It’s a gripping roller coaster of a story, twists turns and double crossing villains, loved it. The film also stars Alicia Vikander, who’s role here is in complete contrast to her role in Testament of Youth, she is going to have a big career and we hope to see her in lots more to come. Must also mention Brendon Thwaites, his understated, brooding performance was perfect against the confident McGregor, and very easy on the eye, our advice is to keep wearing the singlets, Brendon we do need to see your arms. This is going to top of my 2015 films so far.
