If I needed tissues after just watching the trailer for “Stronger,” I can’t imagine how much the movie is going to tug at my heartstrings.
The film tells the story of Jeff Bauman, a working-class Boston man who was one of the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Jeff, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is like any ordinary 27-year-old, and waits by the finish line of the marathon in an attempt to capture the heart of his ex-girlfriend Erin (Tatiana Maslany). He happens to be right where the bomb goes off, and loses both of his legs in the attack. The story then follows Jeff as he becomes a symbol of hope and embodiment of the city’s recovering motto, “Boston Strong,” as he takes on months of physical rehabilitation in order to one day walk again.
Based on true events, the film is an adaptation of Jeff’s novel of his journey, Stronger. The story delves deep into Jeff’s personal life as he leans on his family and Erin, and garners the attention of the entire community during his fight. The movie is said to make you laugh, cry, and feel every emotion in between as you dive into Jeff’s emotional and physical struggle. Directed by David Gordon Green, the movie also stars Academy Award nominee, Miranda Richardson.
Lionsgate Films is bringing “Stronger” to the big screen 8th December. Watch the trailer below.
