The Finest Hours tells the remarkable true story of the 1952 rescue of the SS Pendleton; the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history.
In February 1952, one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast struck New England, pummelling towns and wreaking havoc on anything in its deadly path. The SS Pendleton experienced its force, and is ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside the rapidly sinking ship.
On a small lifeboat faced with an ill-equipped engine, little means of navigation, frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves; four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the stranded sailors. The Finest Hours is the story of their heroic mission.
