Set to premiere at the 59th BFI Film Festival this year; The Lady in the Van is the big screen adaptation and story of Alan Bennett’s iconic and celebrated memoir.

The film tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett (Alex Jennings) and Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith). In the 70’s, a elderly woman in a van turned up on Bennett’s north London street. When the council asked Miss Shepherd to move, Bennett invited her to live in his driveway. He forms an unexpected bond and fondness for the defiant character who wandered into his life; and she stays there for the next 15 years, until her death.
In The Lady in the Van we get to have a glimpse of Maggie Smith as the bold and mischievous Miss Shepherd. Their unique story is warm and humorous, with sentimental undertones coming through in this feel-good film.
