All eyes were on Hollywood on Sunday night for the 88th annual Academy Awards; where the ceremony kicked off with a tribute to the year in film for 2015, spreading far and wide, celebrating all films beyond the nominees for the night.
The biggest news of the evening was the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio has at last won his first Oscar, and we couldn’t be happier about it. The Revenant scooped up Leo’s first award at the ceremony last night and the star dedicated his speech to his environmental work. Host for the evening Chris Rock was cracking out all the gags about OscarsSoWhite, “I counted at least 15 black people in that montage” he laughed as he took to the stage. Room star Jacob Tremblay also won our cutest person in the world award with his mini Armani suit on… naww.

AWARDS
The awards kicked off with the first win of the night for Spotlight, for Best Original Screenplay, with the Best Adapted Screenplay went to Best Picture nominee, The Big Short.

The favourite for the Best Actress prize was presented by Eddie Redmayne, and Brie Larson gave a special shout out to her young co-star in her speech; Jacob Tremblay.

Mad Max: Fury Road took home six awards for costume design, production design, hair and makeup, editing, sound editing and sound mixing.

In Leonardo DiCaprio‘s speech accepting his first ever Best Actor Oscar, he said he hoped audiences would take home with them what The Revenant said about “man’s relationship with the natural world”.
“Climate change is real” he said. “It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat affecting our species. We need to work together and stop procrastinating.” DiCaprio concluded, “Let us not take this planet for granted… I do not take tonight for granted.”

Alicia Vikander was named Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl. She paid tribute to her co-star Eddie Redmayne; she told him, “Thank you for being the best acting partner. You raised my game”.
Mark Rylance triumphed over Sylvester Stallone, and won for his performance as a man accused of being a Soviet spy in director Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies.
