OUR TOP ROOT TOUCH UPS

March 15, 2016

By Hannah Powling

Hair products are expanding and although root touch-ups aren’t necessarily new on the market, it does seem like there’s a new breed of ‘makeup for hair’. The selection has gotten a whole lot better, wider and more innovative – and more people seem to be reaching for these handy little solutions.

These concealers for your hair are a quick fix for those bad hair days; they can be great for disguising those troublesome baby hairs around your temples, for dark hair that’s thinning, when your roots are showing, or when you just have some grey strands that you wish to hide away. For some, it could even prolong the time between hair appointments; offering an easy and effective DIY solution at home. All you need to do is apply to dry hair.

Take a look at the root touch up products that we’ve tried at home and made top of our list:

Color Wow

Root Cover up, £24.50 from QVCUK
Color Wow Root Cover Up, £24.50 from QVCUK

Color Wow’s powder is water-resistant and formulated to adhere to hair giving the most natural effect. The shimmery pigment helps to give a natural sheen of hair, disguising any hair regrowth or grey hairs. It is encased in slimline, sleek packaging with a double ended brush and nice big mirror for you to be able to take this little essential anywhere you go. Simply apply to roots with the brush and work your way out, holding your hair tight.

Perfect for: Prolonging your hair appointments, covering grey hairs and roots and will withstand the London weather too!

Charles Worthington

Instant Root
Charles Worthington Instant Root Concealer, £9.99 from Boots.

Charles Worthington’s newest launch features an integrated soft brush which dispenses their touch-up powder into your hair. It creates a soft and natural effect with no brush lines to disguise the powder into your hair. So easy to use, no blending required, gives a soft matte finish. To remove, simply wash out.

Perfect for: Baby hairs and thinning hair as the wide fluffy brush disperses softly on both scalp and hair, giving the appearance of thicker hair.

The Hair Experts

The Hair Experts Root Touch-Up, £9.99 from Boots.

When there is no time to get to the hairdressers, this little sleek compact passes off as a makeup bag essential. It has a handy big mirror for on-the-go touch ups, with a double ended brush to apply the powder. The pigment is pearlescent, for a more natural appearance of natural hair-like shine. At £9.99, we like the price of this one too. On dry hair, simply pull the hair tight and brush onto the strands, avoiding the scalp. You can build up the colour as desired.

Perfect for: Growing out roots and greys, or on the go.

John Frieda

John Frieda Root Blur Colour Blending Concealer, £9.99 from Boots

John Frieda’s dual-shade mineral powder allows you the freedom to customise your shade, to conceal your roots to match your colour perfectly. There is an angled fire tip brush to apply with ease, and encased in a travel-size compact with mirror.

Perfect for: Hair that isn’t one colour! It will warm up greys or blend away regrowth on highlighted hair and lighter blondes perfectly.
