PARIS FASHION WEEK UPDATE

March 9, 2016

By Alyssa Boddicker

Fashion Month is winding down and we could not be more upset about it, but it has truly been a good one, that has left us fully inspired. There have been so many amazing shows and with that – even more amazing trends that we can’t wait to try out for ourselves. We narrowed down some of our favorite fashion shows and the trends within them from Givenchy, Kenzo, Off White, Stella McCartney, and Saint Laurent. Check it out!

Givenchy

Warm and deep colors are found throughout the jackets of this collection.

We were instantly brought into the fall months as soon as the first model of this warm and earthy F/W 2016 collection hit the runway. Rich golds, browns, and blacks were the main color palette in the Givenchy show, while exciting graphic mosaics, animal prints, and Egyptian inspiration added flare. Fall and winter are the prime time for jackets and Givenchy knows that. Their beautifully crafted jackets range in styles from bombers, to military coats to trenches, all the while keeping details from the collection to spice them up. Bella Hadid’s bomber jacket has a gorgeous gold medallion focused front and center, while the longer trenches on either edges of the photo use cheetah and geo prints to kick the looks up a notch.

It’s all in the details at Givenchy’s F/W 2016 show.

We’re obsessed with these insanely detailed boots worn by the models in Givenchy’s show. The color block heels are absolutely stunning, and the suede and patterned leather are perfect for fall.

Pale gold and prints were key elements in the Givenchy show.

Pale gold, geometric mosaics reminiscent of ancient Egypt, as well as animal prints were the stand out elements of Givenchy’s newest collection. We loved the graphic prints from with chrome fabrics and evil eye details that took hieroglyphics into a modern age, while the pale gold pieces lightened up the runway so it felt anything but heavy. Cheetah print and snake skin accents added a final touch of adventure this exploring collection, we loved it.

Kenzo

All these Kenzo jackets are our #fallstylegoals.

Navy and black were the colors of choice when looking at jackets this season at Kenzo. The floral pattern sprinkled onto navy coats were a lovely and unexpected touch, and the exposed stitching on the structured jackets created gorgeous and full forms without looking heavy. Pops of leather in each jacket bring the pieces further into the autumn months in an edgy yet chic way.

Bright colors, patterns, and fabrics lit up the Kenzo runway.

Florescent lilac, deep gold, and pink lit up the runway in this bold and energetic collection from Kenzo. Fall fashion is usually assumed to be dark and dreary, yet Kenzo goes against this by adding bright florals, chrome zebra print, and florescent solids into many pieces of their F/W 2016 show. We love this change up and are excited to try it for ourselves.

Structured biker style jackets and edgy beauty choices make Kenzo’s backstage area the place for cool girls.

We’re obsessed with these structured, exposed stitching jackets from the Kenzo show. The bold lines, thick fabrics, and outlined structure of the jacket make for a strong look. Embroidery on the back of the jackets stitched “Kenzo”gave us an almost Pink Ladies vibe which pairs perfectly with the biker style of many pieces in the collection. The hair and makeup seen in this backstage shot is the perfect mix of sleek and rebellious, two styles we love.

Off White

Reimagined streetwear was the focal point of Off White’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

The breakout star of Paris Fashion Week this season was undoubtably Off White. To quote an excited fashionista on the Snapchat’s Paris My Story, “I had no idea who Off White was until now, and I’m OBSESSED“. Who wouldn’t be obsessed with this streetwear turned glam brand who somehow made purse belts high fashion? Also, with a celebrity fan base boasting Kendall Jenner, Kanye West, Rihanna, and even Queen B, this brand is definitely one to watch.

We’re obsessed with Off White’s colour palette for fall.

A color palette straight from the futuristic desert, Off White’s experimentation with rust red, chrome silver, tan, pale blue, and black have us picturing a sunset from the year 2116. We love the experimental shapes of the collection especially the crossed neckline leather corset we’re drooling over. Rust red leather we predict will be the biggest fall/winter trend to come out of this collection and we cannot be more excited about it.

Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney somehow masters every type of jacket needed in her newest F/W collection.

Known for making her collections as ‘full wardrobes’, Stella McCartney knows how to hit the marks for every type of outerwear, especially in her Fall/Winter lines. This season we’re loving the oversized jackets of all styles that were found throughout. Quilted coats and long jackets worn over the shoulders are the two top trends we spotted and are an easy way to bring the Paris runways into your own wardrobe, thanks Stella!

Geometric and sequined detailing were flawless in McCartney’s show.

Geometric accessories from purses to earrings added a modern edge to Stella McCartney’s Fall/Winter collection, while sequined detailing added some glamour to the dresses of the runway.

Seductive slips contrast against heavy knits giving a wide range of styles to the F/W collection.

Stella nailed the silky slip trend this season with some gorgeous sequined slips that took the style of dress from sleepwear to full out glamour. Sticking to her ‘whole wardrobe in one collection’ aesthetic, contrasted against the slip dresses were rich and thick knit sweaters, structured tweed business wear, and relaxed chiffon jumpsuits that were to die for. We loved the wide range of this collection and how it still seemed to flow together so effortlessly, kudos Stella McCartney!

Saint Laurent

The 80’s made a comeback big time in Saint Laurent’s F/W 2016 show.

In what’s rumored to be his last show for Saint Laurent, designer Hedi Slimane decided to make a huge statement to all the people who have criticized his past four years of ‘indie-grungy LA Youth’ collections…BYE. In a huge change up that many think is mocking the fashion industry, Saint Laurent’s newest Fall/Winter 2016 collection goes back to the 80’s, shoulder pads and all. Loud colors, garish shoulder highlights, and basically anything that you would put on Madonna circa 1984 was in this collection with a slightly more Parisian twist. Besides the bright color pieces, monochrome black white and gray stripes, polka dots, and solids add that classic Parisian touch to the loud 80’s theme.

We love the polka dot sequin detailing on the opening piece of Saint Laurent.

Many of Saint Laurent’s pieces from their F/W collection are over the top, so one of our more tame favorites was this gorgeous large collared button down that just screamed chic, especially next to that red lip. We’re hoping to incorporate this red and dotted combo into our wardrobe, just maybe not with such a large neckline.

Overall the Paris Fashion Week shows have shown us how much fun we can have with our Fall/Winter wardrobes. From Off White’s rust red leather, to Kenzo and Givenchy’s animal instincts, to Saint Laurent’s bright and bold 80’s collection, we can definitely say Bright Is The New Black for this upcoming Fall/Winter season. Now it’s only the task of incorporating this into our own wardrobes.
