She’s a fresh face with a great personality, so it’s no wonder the world is currently obsessed with Daisy Ridley. Confident and outspoken, Daisy is one to watch as she continues to star in the Star Wars franchise as well as pursue other projects.
Her rise to fame is one of fairytales. She had only a few minor roles before being cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Star Wars Franchise is well known for taking unheard of actors and putting them in feature roles. Rolling Stone called her a “total unknown” at the time of her casting.
Her character Rey is the first female protagonist to star in the Star War’s four-decade history (many thanks for Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen who proved female protags can make billions in the box office). Ridley has since accumulated a massive fan base, as Rey has both charmed and been adored by not only Star Wars diehards but critics as well.
This girl isn’t a one hit wonder either, you can expect to see her in much more than just the franchise in the upcoming years. Recently it was announced that she’ll be starring as the title role character in Ophelia, an adaption of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Shakespeare won’t be too hard for her, she grew up in London and went to school for theatre, where she was described as having a rare “spark” compared to her peers.
Her thoughts on the crazy past year of her life are, “Why me? I don’t know. I honestly don’t. But when you are doing a job and people believe in you any they listen to what you say and they care about how you feel- I felt like I became the best version of myself on set. When I’m playing Rey, it just feels right. When I’m playing Rey . . . it feels amazing.”
The actress is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII… we can’t wait!
