He’s been working in film for years and flying relatively under the radar, but there is no denying now that Domhnall Gleeson is both a successful and remarkable actor. For those wondering if they have been seeing the same face in all their favorite films this past year, the answer is yes.
He is only scheduled to be in more and more movies, so here is the essential breakdown of all things Domhnall Gleeson:
Wonder how to pronounce his name? Domhnall Gleeson’s way of explaining; “It’s like tonal, but with a D instead of a T.”
His “big break” was playing Bill Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 + Part 2.
He had an exceptional year in 2015, as all four of his films (Brooklyn, Ex Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Revenant) were each nominated for multiple Academy Awards.
Domhnall was in About Time, acting alongside Rachel McAdams in the romantic, time-travelling film.
He was just 19 in Broadway’s 2006 production The Lieutenant of Inishmore; Gleeson has deep roots in theatre. He was even nominated for a Tony Award for his performance.
Known for being very humble, even with his stellar filmography, he reckons that he does not get recognised (we’re not convinced) because he “has one of those faces people don’t really recognise.”
Domhnall prefers to keep a low radar on his personal life, and likes attention for his work, and not to him.
Both his brother and father are actors, which made him at first reluctant to follow in the same footsteps; but he was offered to be represented by an agent when he accepted the Irish Film Award for Best Actor – who he at first, declined.
Gleeson decided to go with having an agent, as it was ‘cool’ and thought it would score him some female attention… which he funnily claims it unfortunately didn’t.
He is a huge football fan, and when his favorite team, the Aston Villa FC, won a semifinal game in 2015 he described it as one of the best days of his life.
Look out for him in an upcoming, guaranteed mega hit film Mena with Tom Cruise about the life of Barry Seal, a former TWA pilot and drug smuggler…
