WWF’s global Earth Hour event is this Saturday 23 March. Each year, on a given date, at 8.30 pm landmarks, business and millions of people across the world will be turning off their lights for one hour, to showcase their consideration and care for the future of our planet.
This year, to mark the event, renowned photographer Rankin has captured model Daisy Lowe looking as naturally-beautiful as ever, her bright, clear skin used as the canvas for a single bright flower skin-mural that grows out of a base of cracked, dried earth before snaking up her neck, over her cheek and bursting into 3-d life around her eye. The image works to highlight the awesome beauty and importance of nature, whilst reminding us of how vulnerable out planet is and the part we play in protecting it.
Daisy said, “If we enjoy our planet then I believe we need to take care of it. I hope that people across the UK and the world will take a moment this Earth Hour to appreciate both the beauty and the fragility of the natural world that we rely on so much.”
For global Earth Hour, this weekend, landmarks across the UK, including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Lights and Edinburgh Castle plus international icons The Empire State building, the Eiffel Tower and the Great Wall of China, which can be viewed – as they are plunged into darkness for the first time – live at YouTube.
