This past Monday night, my friends and I wanted to end our first day of school with a glass or two of wine and a bite to eat. As we’re still getting used to the Marylebone neighbourhood, we settled on the pub across the way from our flat, Lord Wargrave, not far from Marble Arch tube station and just a short walk from Hyde Park. From the outside the pub looked warm and inviting, and on the inside, it was exactly that. Dark wood lines the floors, furniture and walls, while a mixture of chandeliers and modern hanging lights reflected off of the orange and blue mosaic walls behind the bar.
Upon being seated, we were greeted with a drink menu boasting over 150 whisky options, as well as an expansive beer and wine list. I opted for a generously sized glass of wine and ordered the Mac ‘n’ Cheese. Had I been hungrier, I would have considered the ‘Smokery and Meats’ section of the menu, which features all meats that are smoked in-house, including the Rib Platter, which comes dry rubbed with their special mix of spices and a house made sauce.
Chalkboards around the pub listed off the Whisky of the Month, a 15-year-old Glenfiddich, as well as the current list of desserts. I must say I was pleased that I could order just one scoop of ice cream, which satisfied my sweet tooth but didn’t make me feel guilty.
Overall it was a wonderful evening filled with good food and good company. The pub itself is open Monday-Saturday from 11am-11pm, while the kitchen is open from 12pm-10pm. On Sundays, the pub’s hours are 11am-10:30pm, and kitchen’s open 12pm-9pm.
