Think I’ve just found my new favourite chef, Jordan Sclare, he cooks and oversees Chotto Matte and Bouillabaisse and has a really fun YouTube channel, see him in the kitchen here. Previously with Nobu London and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. His taste buds and cooking skills have been influenced by his really extensive travels to Hong Kong, Japan, Spain, Ireland, Israel, Monaco, Greece as well as the coasts of England. Let’s remember we produce some excellent seafood here in the UK too, ever tried fresh crab from Cornwall?
I was lucky enough to be invited to Bouillabaisse in London, tucked away just off Oxford Street, this is a real find to keep to yourself, well it depends how much you love your friends to tell them about it too. The food is divine, I am going to show you the complete indulgence I feasted on to give you an idea of what is on the menu, as the name of the restaurant might deceive you. You can order their signature dish Bouillabaisse, and I thoroughly recommend you do!
The story behind the dish was inspired by the owner, Kurt Zdesar’s lifelong friend who said that if he could only have one more meal on earth, it would be the Bouillabaisse from Chez Tetou in Cannes, France. With this in mind Zdesar took Jordan Sclare to Chez Tetou to sample the soup with the aim of recreating it in his own restaurant. Jordan then spent months perfecting the dish to bring this authentic bouillabaisse to London.
So here’s what we tasted and shared; my stand out favourites were the risotto with grilled octopus and the barbequed skate wing. The black risotto was melt in the mouth delicious, I wanted to take it home to eat the next day and the next day….The skate wing was so unusual, I had never tasted fish with such a unique and smoky flavour, very tasty. As this restaurant is tucked away in Mill Street it makes for a lovely place to go for a break from busy Oxford Street and once you are in there you might not want to leave, it’s very cosy and the bar looks really fun too.
