RESTAURANT REVIEW: OPSO, Marylebone

Located a brisk five minute walk from Baker Street, OPSO is a “Greek inspired, London made” restaurant, who have been serving up their modern take on Greek cuisine since opening last year. Their name, OPSO, also known as ΟΨΟ in Greek, simply comes from the ancient word for ‘delicacy’. This is exactly what inspired them to bring the hearty taste of the Mediterranean to London, hence why we could not resist a visit!

We loved their tapas style menu, which is extremely diverse and perfect for sharing. With such a wide range of dishes, it’s near impossible to decide what to order as a single dish, but serving small sharing portions was great and we could taste a variety of dishes. To start with, we decided to try traditional Greek salad, ‘Dakos’ and the Roast Beet Salad. This was also accompanied by the Cheese Platter, served with Greek jam which was similar to chutney.

Our delicious tapas sharing dishes

For the main course we opted for the Lemon-oregano chicken drumstick, slow cooked for twelve hours and served with potato puree, The Grilled salmon with celery coot puree and the Pastitsio ‘noodle box’, with hylopites, beef cheek, tomato and bechamel sauce. Our favourite by far was the Pastitsio box. The pulled beef meat was sweet, succulent and juicy, and although it may seem like this is something similar to Italian pasta, this was the dish which stood out most with it’s fantastic flavours.

Finally, for dessert we chose a typical Greek dessert, ‘Loukoumades’ – a crispy puffed dough, with thyme honey, walnut and kaimaki ice cream (a creamy rich ice cream). For those of you who have a sweet tooth, this is the dessert for you, although we definitely recommend you share this one!
