As if her continual domination of the music charts wasn’t enough, Rihanna will soon be joining the ranks of style icons Kate Moss, Lady Gaga and Iman as fashion royalty. The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced yesterday that Rihanna will be the 2014 recipient of their prestigious Fashion Icon Award, which will be presented on 2nd June in New York City.
“We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of CFDA, in a statement.
Since she first stepped into the spotlight with the launch of her singing career back in 2006, Rihanna has become a walking runway, with designers champing at the bit to dress her. The singer has spiced up every red carpet with her outfits, which range from conservative to absolutely crazy and creative. Rihanna has designed fashion ranges for Armani and River Island, and she’s currently the face of French fashion house Balmain’s spring/summer 2014 campaign. She sat front-row at Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week show last month to watch her current BFF Cara Delevigne sashay down the catwalk, and looked like she could have easily jumped in as one of the models (take note, perhaps, Karl?).

Yesterday’s announcement proves that Rihanna is well on her way to world domination…seriously! She won an icon award at last year’s American Music Awards, and now she’s cemented her position as a fashion juggernaut. With the music and fashion worlds wrapped around her finger, we can’t help but wonder where Rihanna has her sights set on next. More importantly, though, we’ll be waiting with baited breath to see what she chooses to wear when she accepts the Fashion Icon Award in June! In the meantime, take a look at some of RiRi’s best haute couture looks:
