WARNING: Ladies, this news may illicit the same response as The Notebook. . . cue floods of tears, sobbing and an overwhelming need to take a duvet day.
Ryan Gosling has announced that he is taking a break from acting.
Yes, the moody, sexy, steaming-hot demi-god that has recently, to our glee, been all over the silver screen is to take a sabbatical from the movie world.
Speaking to the Huffington Post, the 32 year old actor explained, “I’ve been doing it too much, I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.”
We think he’s got it all wrong, we do not need, or indeed want a break from the Gosling. But wait, he goes on. . . “The more opportunities I’m given, the more I learn about how easy it is to (expletive) it up,” he said. “You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It’s like trying to exercise some restraint, because I do have so much freedom.”
Maybe we’re being greedy. On reflection he has been working pretty damn hard of late, from the funny, sweet Crazy Stupid Love to the bloody Gangsta Squad and the dark, sultry and sexy Drive, to the The Ides of March and the most recent The Place Beyond The Pines. And we can still look forward to watching his pretty face in the Untitled Terrence Malick Project and Only God Forgives.
To help you move on from your Ryan addiction we’d suggest, when you’re feeling strong, to take a peek at the 2006 film Half Nelson where a notably-less-handsome Gosling plays an inner city teacher with a drug habit.
And if all else fails, we suggest gently coaxing your man into wearing this every once in a while. We’re sure he’ll understand!
