If the sunshine and warmer weather is luring you towards healthier pursuits, it’s likely that you’ll be eyeing up London’s finest food markets for organic produce, seasonal delights and fresh fruit and veg this weekend. So, it’s undoubtedly the perfect time – and the perfect area – for One New Change to launch its weekly Saturday market in the heart of the City. Not only do you get to dine against the backdrop of St. Paul’s Cathedral, the area is intrinsically foodie, with markets originally set up around the Eastcheap and Cheapside (cheap meaning market in Old English) areas to feed those living around the City of London as far back as the 12th Century. If you wander the streets, you’ll notice the market-inspired names; Wood Street, Milk Street, Bread Street, Honey Lane, Poultry Street and Friday Street (where fishmongers set up camp).
With an eclectic mix of produce from across the globe and home-grown London chef Gizzi Erskine launching the market with talks and a book signing of Skinny Weeks and Weekend Feasts, this weekend, venture a little further than the renowned but often-overcrowded Borough market and head towards St Paul’s.
One New Change Saturday Market at One New Change, London, EC2M 9AF. Each Saturday from 1st June 2013, 10 am – 4 pm.
