Scarlett Johansson, Katy Perry and Amy Schumer will be joining 100,000 other protesters to fight for women’s rights at a big march in Washington.
The march – taking place on 21st January 2017 – has attracted a number of celebrities who want to make their voice heard. With Julianne Moore and Jessica Chastain both recently announcing they will be joining Scarlett who recently said she wanted to “make my voice heard and stand up for what I believe in” – referring to Donald Trump’s plans for slashing funding for Planned Parenthood and his outlook on abortion.
It has also been reported Hilary Clinton supporter, Katy Perry, will also be joining the march at the end of January. Other celebs rumored to be joining the movement are Amy Schumer, Cher, Patricia Aquette, Olivia Wilde, Debra Messing, Uzo Aduba, Frances McDormand and Zendaya.
Ugly Betty star, America Ferrera, has also been appointed as chair to help with event organisation. In an interview she has said:
“Since the election, so many fear that their voices will go unheard. As artists, women, and most importantly dedicated Americans, it is critical that we stand together in solidarity for the protection, dignity and rights of our communities.”
The protest itself will be taking place on 21st January; just a day after Donald Trump will be sworn in as president. The action being taken in the capital has also inspired other protests taking place around the US, even across the world. Comedian, Chelsea Handler, will even be leading one in Park City, Utah, where the Sundance Film Festival will be taking place.
