If you thought that the French manicure had gone out of style along with perms and butterfly-clipped corn rows then you were wrong. Cast your mind back to the Sophia Webster AW14 show, it brought the nail look back with Barbie girl flair. The show was brimming with 90s nostalgia, think Clueless, think Beverley Hills girls, think Sweet Valley High. Every 90s girl theme was paraded in all its candy-coloured glory. And so was the French mani.

False nails were applied, filed into a squoval shape and buffed to perfection. The length was kept short and relatively natural to offset the look against the indulgently bright collection. Pastel painted talons would have been the obvious fit for the AW14 show, but Revlon’s Jenny Longworth played with expectations by slicking on a naturally finished French mani. Jenny used Revlon Pink Nude (£6.49) together with Revlon White (£6.49) and a topcoat.

If you’ve been dying for an excuse to get back on the French manicure bandwagon then this is it. Here are some kits to look out for if you just can’t wait for an appointment at your favourite nail bar.
