The story behind SheaMoisture is a good one. In 1912, Sofi Tucker started selling Shea Nuts at a village market in Sierra Leone, and by age 19, the widowed mother of four was selling Shea Butter, African Black Soap and her homemade hair and skin preparations all over the countryside. Sofi Tucker was the brand’s Grandmother, and SheaMoisture is her legacy.
Using certified organic Shea Butter in their products, the Jamaican Black Castor Oil range works to strengthen, grow and repair your tresses. It is great for all hair types, straight, curly, wavy – but especially good for damaged or chemically processed hair.
Jamaican black castor oil is a well known beauty remedy for helping the healthy growth of hair. It has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties and is high in Vitamin E, minerals, proteins, and Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids. It’s unusually high ricinoleic acid ratio makes it wonderfully beneficial to your skin and hair.
I’m going to start with the first thing you notice when you squeeze the golden honey-like shampoo into the palm of your hands – the smell. Well, wow. It’s basically good enough to squeeze onto your pancakes. Sweet, syrupy. Lovely.
JBCO contains apple cider vinegar which is a natural clarifier for your hair and scalp. The shampoo cleanses, without leaving your hair stripped or dry feeling. It helps to reduce breakage and shedding, and encourages to help your hair grow stronger. I do use about a million products on my hair – so it’s sometimes hard to tell if ONE is making your hair grow longer – but I will say that the way it cleans my hair, well it feels bloody lovely in doing so. Just the experience of the sweet, delectable smell in the shower does it for me alone. But my hair feels soft, and tangle-free, ready for conditioner.
The caramel-coloured deep conditioning masque works to restore strength and resilience to damaged, brittle or chemically processed hair. The trick is to smother it in, comb through from root to tip and leave it in for 15 minutes to really get the full benefits. I try and get this in once a week for a good dose of nourishment among my week of styling, heating and general London pollution. It is a nice treat, and my hair feels super shiny and soft afterwards, so you know it’s doing the trick.
Because I know this brand uses a special blend of nourishing, natural, certified organic and ethically sourced ingredients – you know what you’re putting on your hair is all good stuff. And we all want that don’t we?. It is well-priced for the quality you get, which is a great plus – so I would totally recommend anyone to try out SheaMoisture for themselves.
