I’d heard about the Stiks Cosmetiks retro-packaged one-handed lipstick for applying on-the-go and I was excited to try such a thing. I am a big fan of one-handed-on-the-go. It’s a silver mirrored Chrysler Building of a package, you can check your lips in it and you can twist up the lippie in your left hand while texting in your right, dog walking, martini sipping, coffee drinking – whatever. I like the look of it, a couple of times I’ve forgotten to take the top of the Chrysler off and it’s got a bit smudgey, but what I really love about it is the texture, colour and staying power is better than most other lipsticks. It’s not just a gimmick – it’s perfection.
I got the Fuchsia Lips, it’s velvety, not too pink, not too red. Miraculously a great colour for me. In my tired, jet-lagged ‘I’m only going to the shops’ mode, I couldn’t really be bothered for a full make-up face but I’m one of those annoying people that puts on a basic face to go to a Psycle class. You don’t have to think when you apply this lipstick, it’s cut on geometric angle so it makes for a very precise lip very quickly. It makes me wonder why all lipsticks aren’t cut on such an angle.
Sometimes I can do a red lipstick and mascara but that can be a little harsh, a little too much about the lips. The fuchsia pink fits better, by that I mean, it doesn’t look as if you’re too tired to put on make-up so you’re overpowering your own face with a bright lipstick just so you have colour. It makes your whole face look dressed. It does something to the skin tone as well. It enhances the whole face.
I have very sensitive lips which are always peeling, flaking and the stronger the colour of the lipstick usually the worse state of my lip flesh, not so with Stik. They’re not set out as being moisturising but for a strong, matte lipstick they are quite dewy.
Because I like the texture and the longevity so much I am definitely going to try some of the other colours. There’s a nice dark red and a nude. It fits perfectly into a pocket so you can have your lipstick and your mirror all in one. The website even shows it fitting into a dog’s collar so you can take it out on your dog walk. I don’t have a dog but if I did walk one she would be walking with lipstick.
