Where a fuschia pink lip for Spring/Summer may not seem like ground-breaking territory, this year there is one particular pout causing a stir in the beauty world. Described as ‘sensual, strong and matte’ by make up artist Charlotte Tilbury who created the orchid-inspired pout for Prabal Gurung SS12, it is the beauty-look on everyone’s lips.
Reflective of Gurung’s floral-heavy collection, which was inspired by Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki’s 1997 photographic series Sensual Flowers, the multi-tonal pout mimics a ‘flower blossoming from the mouth’ and was created using four shades – MAC Lipmix in Black, Burgundy, Fuchsia and MAC Lip Pencil in Magenta – carefully blended from the centre of the lip outwards.
The simple trick to recreating this stunning, blossoming-mouthed look is to pat a dark plum shade, such as Hourglass Femme Rouge Lipstickin Fever £22 or Topshop Cheek & Lip Tint in Bitten Berry £7 onto the central inner portion of the lips, before filling in the rest of the lip with a brighter and lighter pink, using fingers for a slightly worn-in look. Our personal favourites are MAC Lipstick in Quick Sizzle £13.50, L’Oreal Rouge Caresse in Cheeky Magenta £7.99 and Topshop Lipstick in All About Me £8.
Keep the rest of your skin dewy and flawless by combining a light layer of foundation with a radiance-enhancing primer or highlighter before gently contouring cheekbones with a soft tan powder such as Bourjois Delice de Soleil Bronzing Powder, £8.99.
Simple, striking and blooming’ lovely.
