STANLEY KUBRICK EXHIBITION LONDON

April 12, 2016

A new exhibition, curated by Mo’Wax and UNKLE founder, artist and DJ James Lavelle, features a host of contemporary artists, film makers and musicians showcasing work inspired by Stanley Kubrick.

The contributors have been invited to respond to a film, scene, character or theme from the much-loved Kubrick archives, to shine a new perspective onto the cinematic master’s life work.

The exhibition at Somerset House, named Daydreaming With Stanley Kubrick; is supported by artist Christiane Kubrick, the director’s wife of 41 years, who will be painting a new piece especially for the show, and Jan Harlan, Kubrick’s Executive Producer for 28 years.  It is additionally endorsed by Warner Bros. Pictures, who collaborated with Kubrick on all his films since 1971.

What’s to expect from the exhibition? We have all been inspired, evoked and affected some way or another by the ingenious work of Stanley Kubrick; we get to see this come to life by artists’ interpretations – in the physical form.

Artist Sarah Lucas will contribute a phallus-like sculpture called 'Priapus' in homage to the murder weapon from A Clockwork Orange.

The artworks contributed to the show include Doug Aitken’s ‘Twilight’, a public payphone bathed in a luminous glow, which will be reminiscent of a Dr Strangelove scene; while Sarah Lucas will lend ‘Priapus’, a phallic sculpture suggestive of the iconic murder weapon in A Clockwork Orange; Doug Foster plans to flood a small tunnel with light to replicate the trippy Stargate sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey… and more.

Take a look at the video below of what to look forward to from the exhibition:
