The Unicorn Food fad has stolen the internet’s heart. Bright colored foods drizzled in sparkles and pastel and rainbow details have become an obsession with a cult-like following, and yesterday Starbucks announced they were jumping on the bandwagon by releasing the Unicorn Frappuccino.
We watched in awe as photos flooded online of the over-the- top beverage. In a press release, Starbucks said the drink consisted of “a sweet dusting of pink powder, blended into a crème Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a pleasantly sour blue drizzle. It is finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping.
Starbucks also claims that the drink changes its color to purple, and the flavor evolves from sweet and fruity to tangy and tart. The colors of the drink have already sparked controversy, as it’s not the most…organic looking drink on the planet. Nothing says unnatural quite like neon pink and blue sparkles.
Social media platforms are overflowing with both praise and complaints, as it seems like the population is divided when it comes to the drink. According to CNN Money, a “tall” (Starbucks’ smallest size) Unicorn Frappuccino with whole milk has 280 calories, 11 grams of fat, and 39 grams of sugar.
We’re so curious as to how we’d feel about this “magical” drink but unfortunately us Londoners will have to wait our turn, because as of right now they’re only making them in the US, Mexico, and Canada. For now they’re also only being sold between 19 April- 23 April. Rest assured we’re keeping a close eye on the reviews.
