Stijn Helsen Designs for Belgian Olympic Team

July 25, 2012

With the Olympics literally just days away, the excitement surrounding the opening ceremony is growing exponentially. With an expected 4 billion viewers tuning in Friday night, the pressure is on… especially for the designers that have been so carefully selected to dress the athletes of their respective countries.

Amongst those chosen is Stijn Helsen, who was responsible for dressing Belgium, and he has not disappointed. Helsen, who hails from a three generation family of tailors, has worked as costumer for several films, including Pirates of the Caribbean, and Spiderman 2. If thats not impressive enough, Stijn has also worked alongside Vivienne Westwood, Valentino, and on occasion, dressed the Belgium Royals. It’s no wonder he’s the Belgian Olympic team’s designer of choice!

For the opening ceremony, the men will wear three piece fitted suits bearing the official Belgian olympic symbol. The women will wear couture jersey jackets with leggings and a bustier in Belgium’s national colors.

Helsen joins designers including Stella McCartney for Great Britain and Ralph Lauren for the US in a competition for best dressed team. We’ll find out Friday, and we can’t wait!
