Ethical beauty retailer The Body Shop continues to support the charitable side of beauty, today announcing that it will be the official headline sponsor of the 2013 Teenage Cancer Trust concert.
Committed to helping young cancer patients, The Teenage Cancer Trust works to improve these young patients’ quality of life and their chances of survival. To raise funds, each year, the Trust holds a concert where stars from all genres of music come together at the Royal Albert Hall. This year the concerts will take place from the 19th to 24th March 2013, and include a stella line up;
Tuesday 19th: American alt-country/rock singer, Ryan Adams with special guest Beth Orton
Wednesday 20th: An evening of comedy with Russell Brand and Noel Fielding with special guests
Thursday 21st: Scottish alternative rock band, Primal Scream
Friday 22nd: English rock band, Kasabian
Saturday 23rd: Noel Gallagher, Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon
Sunday 24rd: Hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks and electronic singer/songwriter Labrinth
For the last twelve years, The Who frontman, Roger Daltrey has been the Teenage Cancer Trust’s patron and the driving force behind the concerts. But this year, Daltrey will be sharing the title with ex-Oasis frontman, Noel Gallagher.
On asking Noel to curate Roger Daltrey said, “Who’s a lucky boy then! I AM! As I am in the middle of a 6 month tour of the US with The Who, I was very concerned that I would not find the time to curate next year’s Teenage Cancer Trust shows at the Royal Albert Hall. So it’s with great pride and relief that I’m able to thank Noel Gallagher, who has supported me from day one of these concerts, for standing in for me and arranging the artists for the shows next March, and he has pulled together a fantastic line up that promises to be another great success for the charity.”
At today’s press conference Noel Gallagher explained his reasons for supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust simply saying,
“A teenager whose dreams are not as they should be is quite a touching thing.” When asked about his feelings toward the concert’s sponsor, he jokes “I’m wearing The Body Shop, can’t you tell?”
So far, £15million has been raised for Teenage Cancer Trust through the concerts, with all money raised has helped the charity to build more specialist teenage cancer units in NHS hospitals across the UK, allowing young people to be treated together with others their own age, in an environment suited to their needs.
