The fabulous London Film Festival begins today and what a corker of a film to kick off this fantistic showcase of film making. I have just seen The Personal History of David Copperfield this morning, ahead of the Gala Performance tonight and at 8.30am a film needs to keep you awake and interested, this was a total delight!
Directed by Armando Iannucci and co-written by him and Simon Blackwell, this witty story was based on the novel by Charles Dickens. The story-telling, style and characters put me in mind of The Favourite, British humour at its best. Dev Patel is always so likeable on screen and is brilliant here in the lead. Tilda Swinton is perfectly wicked and hilarious too, I loved this one and it has put me in an excited mood for many more wonderful films to watch over the next 2 weeks.
Watch the trailer here, with Dev Patel, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi, Ben Whishaw, Paul Whitehouse and Gwendoline Christie.
