By Hannah Powling
I have been graced with fine hair genes.. It’s quite straight, fair and flyaway – and particularly not enjoyable if you dream (like I do) of having big, volumous & thick hair. Sigh, thanks parents.
After years and years of wearing clip-in extensions, endless backcombing and good old Tresemme Freeze Hold hairspray (literally like glue..it’s genious) and frankly, ruining my hair; I have had enough. I am 25, and starting to think, I can’t afford to ruin my hair any more. It is definitely a catch 22 situation there; the more voluminous I try to make it, the more I damage my hair – and the more hair I ruin, the worse/thinner it looks. It started to look dry, and in bad condition, and just doesnt grow! It lost it’s softness and shine, it breaks off at the ends faster than it grows… So I set out on a mission to look after my hair once and for all.
As I have slightly parted with the idea of having big luscious locks – I still strive for volume, but healthy volume. And a safe way of doing so to my hair – so I wanted to share with you what I have been using and tried out for myself – and will continue to use, as I have had success with these products.. Here are some great fine hair remedies that I think are so worth trying out for all you fine hair people out there!
GROW GORGEOUS Revolutionary Treatments
Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum Intense 60ml, £45
Grow Gorgeous have taken their best-selling Hair Growth Serum to a whole new level – with the Intense version – featuring a 40% concentration of their 9 studied technologies that have been shown to make hair visibly denser, longer, thicker and fuller.

Apart from the fact that it has such an advanced and innovative natural formula to promote and encourage hair growth and thickness..it smells DIVINE! It’s certainly like perfume for the hair as well as an advanced treatment.
So, the properties of this lovely little glass bottle are all natural with advanced technologies to promote hair growth; here’s a couple to give you an idea..
Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 & Clover Flower Extract Active Complex – this has been shown in an independent ingredient study to start working within 8 days to improve visible hair length while increasing hair density by 13% within 4 months. It’d be like having 13,000 more hairs on average.
Solubilized Caffeine Complex – This is a unique water-compatible form of caffeine that allows for extremely high concentrations of caffeine to be absorbed into the scalp. Caffeine has been shown in independent studies to increase visible hair density and reduce visible hair loss in as few as 8 days.
Grow Gorgeous Blonde Cleansing Conditioner 120ml, £20

Veering away from traditional shampoos that can strip the natural oils from your hair (which contribute to making your hair look healthy), Grow Gorgeous have a range of cleansing conditioners to suit your hair type. Their multi-tasking product combines bubble-less cleansing and deep condition in just one step. The first time using a non-foaming shampoo does feel strange! But it feels so smooth and you can feel it giving your hair a good clean too. It is gentle enough for daily use, so ideal for finer hair that needs a more regular wash.
This product is designed to re -balance the scalp and restore hair to it’s full visible potential.
They claim to see and feel incredible results after just one use and expect better and better results over time – and it is true, my hair feels soft, and looks in much better condition.

MACADAMIA

Macadamia Weightless Moisture Range
Weightless Moisture Shampoo £18.90
Weightless Moisture Conditioner £19.40
Weightless Moisture Conditioning Mist £19.60
This lovely range is designed for baby fine, to fine hair that is often thin, limp and lifeless. Macadamia nut oil has become a popular hair care ingredient known for it’s richness in vitamins and nutrients, so this brand is a ideal one if you’re looking to rejuvenate and look after your hair.
This range is particularly for fine hair, containing Macadamia’s exclusive Pro Oil Complex, which is a blend of therapeutic Macadamia and Argan oils, rich in Omegas and intensely moisturises your hair without weighing it down.
It really does leave my hair soft, but weightless, and bouncy, so I’m able to style it easily.
BUMBLE AND BUMBLE
Thickening Hairspray 250ml, £22
This hair spray isn’t your usual spray-to-set kind of hair spray. It is best used before heated tools or before any of the setting is done. It works to give fine hair a lift-off as you are styling it. Spray it onto your damp hair evenly, and then style it as normal.
It is quite light, with a moderate hold, but helps keep structure in your hair style, and fullness! For me it is a little extra oompf to add to my hair, to give it a little lift.
The formula works to hold, yet moisturise and condition the hair at the same time. One particular ingredient also helps to repair split ends, and leaves your hair to appear more volumised, but healthily!
BABYLISS
Pro 210 Hair Crimper, £20

The BaByliss Hair Crimpers have slim tourmaline-ceramic plates, and heat up to 210°C in just 30 seconds – to give hair that is shiny with long-lasting texture.
I know it’s a little 90’s but crimping is a good way to get long lasting volume!
I try to avoid heat on the ends of my hair which is a lot more fragile and damaged, in my case. The trick is to do it underneath, so it is not visable, and it really gives the volume of back combing without that tangled-looking frizz. You can add as little or as much crimping as you want depending on how much volume you are after. Leave the top layers of hair undone, which adds texture to the underneath layers to give root volume that lasts.
