In accordance with its annual Time 100 publication, Time has released a comprehensive list of the most renowned icons of the fashion industry since the magazine’s launch in 1923.
The list of “All-TIME 100 Fashion Icons” is divided into five categories: designers & brands, models, muses, photographers, and editors & stylists. Designers and brands make up the bulk of the list, as to be expected, while the muse category, which included The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Princess Diana and Michelle Obama, proved to be most surprising. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen make an appearance in the directory of icons for the first time, perhaps the youngest of all designers listed.
For the most part, the list is all-inclusive, with the usual mega fashion houses Chanel, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Valentino and Versace rounding out the list. Although, we did notice a few obvious choices missing from the list. Designers Donna Karan and Roberto Cavalli noticeably got the shaft, while Patrick Demarchelier is an unexpected omission from the category of iconic photographers.
These symbols of style aren’t ranked, so there’s no clear winner for worldwide style icon, but who would be your number one?
