It’s no secret that London is in the throes of a Scandi love affair. From the sleek, minimal homewares designs that we’ve adopted to the varied, authentic restaurants and bakeries that have become our mainstays. But also having a bit of a moment in the big smoke . . . burgers! Where are we going with this you may be wondering?! Well, combine the two and you have Tommi’s Burger Joint – the latest offering from Iceland – and we’re pretty sure it’s going to be a roaring success.
Opened yesterday, the American-style diner, which has found a home in Marylebone, offers a menu that is simple and based on a selection of burgers that are charcoal-cooked on an American gas grill. Garnished in the classic diner style, accompanied by fries, homemade Bearnaise and cocktail sauces, the meat is carefully sourced from the UK, and created using a recipe that Tommi, or Tomas Tomasson to give the Icelandic entrepreneur his full name, has perfected over several decades.
With a chilled-out, vintage feel, exposed brickwork, high wooden tables and stools made of reclaimed wood, the 25-cover burger joint is set to join the current front runners, Meat Liquor and Burger & Lobster, as London’s best burger bars.
Tommi says, ‘We are hugely excited about bringing our burgers to London as the capital has a huge appetite for them right now. Having eaten one every day for the last eight years and travelling the world trying out different styles, I know that a good burger joint should be fun, relaxed and most importantly taste great, so we hope Londoners enjoy our take on the burger phenomenon!”
All we can say is, we’re glad that summer holidays are behind us, as this is not in any way conducive to bikini wearing.
