Trashy Lingerie has been an LA bastion of good bad taste for years.
It is a lingerie shop that has a huge selection of up market / down market, leather, leopard, black satin, pastel pretty lingerie sets. They are designed for bedroom, fancy dress and underwear as outerwear.
It is a membership only shop as it likes to be exclusive but it only cost $2 to join. So not that exclusive! And while Sara’s in Studio City may be the most up market and recently featured on E for their new Reality show Stewarts & Hamiltons showing beautiful handmade lacy garments -Trashy is the other end of the scale. It is all-inclusive despite its membership policy and it is certainly not cheap but the price range means there is something for all tastes and budget.
A visit to Trashy is something you do with friends, you dress up, takes photos and send it to boyfriends and see which one he is going to buy you. Or at least that is how I spent my afternoon there recently. After years of being in and out of the news – I think Madonna was the first person to feature one of their corsets – Trashy are right back with the Caitlyn corset.
Caitlyn Jenner for her Goodbye Bruce, Hello Caitlyn cover of Vanity Fair wore a blush pink satin corset and looked just like the woman she wanted to be. If this corset could make a transgender womanly just imagine what it could do for a woman. My friend tried it on and loved it. It is very much tiny waist, hourglass and a slight alteration had to be made around the breast area. I tried it on and I was just the wrong shape. The waist was too tiny and by the time I got one with the correct waist size it was too long in the body.
The expert assistant found me another black ruffled corset which looked like I belonged in a wild west salon. The assistant has a great eye and knows her stock well. She picked the perfect one for me.
They also make you feel normal and welcome. Any shape, size or age, they are non-judgemental, they simply alter it to fit. Well done Caitlyn for rediscovering Trashy.
