Not that you need reminding, BUT, it’s the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show tomorrow!
This year the show will pay homage to pop culture, the circus and the silver screen, with 65 different costumes and 28 pairs of Angel wings. In a word, the collection’s designer Thomas Todd describes it as simply “magical”.
Todd told WWD that, “This year’s show will open with a spectacular theme that sets the tone for the entire show. There will be nostalgic romance, historical fashion and epic references to pop culture.” The opening theme is the circus, the color and whimsy of which is apparent in the above sketch of one of the costumes that will take the stage.
This year’s show will also feature some of the top up-and-coming model talent, including Jourdan Dunn and Cara Delevingne, who were confirmed as models for the show earlier this week. Also making her Victoria’s Secret Angel debut this year, is model Hilary Rhoda. The Estée Lauder spokesmodel confirmed by posting a picture of herself exercising in preparation for the show and tweeting: “#VSFashionShow training. You get out what you put in!”
The VS Angels all flew into New York over the weekend for final costume fittings. Miranda Kerr is reportedly to wear a green velvet bodysuit encrusted with Swarovski crystals and feathers. Alessandra Ambrosio is certain to draw the eye and steal the show this year, as she has the honour of wearing the multi-million-pound Fantasy Bra. Angels Doutzen Kroes, Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldridge and Candice Swanepoel have all also Tweeted their excitement for the show, following their fittings.
Special features of this year’s show include a floral spectacular entitled “Angels In Bloom”, and a segment referred to as “Dangerous Liaisons,” that is set to include Rihanna‘s performance. A special costume is also set to take to the stage, created in tribute to the 10th Anniversary of the collaboration between VS and Swarovski. Designed by Thomas Todd, the “diaphanous” costume, pictured in the sketch above, will be featured in the Silver Screen portion of the show. The lovely creation is to be worn by model Cameron Russell, and features both Art Deco motifs and plenty of “cinematic drama”.
Two Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows will take place at the Armory in New York tomorrow, the first at 4pm local time (9pm GMT) and the second at 8pm (1am GMT). However, the show will not be broadcast until 4 December on CBS television network in the United States.
