Now that the nights are darker and the weather has turned colder, it’s easy to hibernate away. However, did you know that October is a great month to take a trip around the UK?
One of the best festivals takes place in London the first two weeks of October, the London Film Festival with so many public screenings all over Central London. The perfect oppurtunity to mix travel and culture with off peak travel prices and a few less queues.
If you’re looking to recharge those batteries and get out of the house for a while, getting outside for a good walk or a day trip around the country can be a great idea. Not convinced? Here, you’ll discover why October is a great month to take a trip around the UK.
Tourist season is over
In the UK, the tourist season runs from May to around mid-September. So, by the time October arrives, peak season is over. This means it’s going to be much quieter wherever you choose to go.
This is great news if you’re planning on heading to major towns and cities. If you travel during the week too, you’ll avoid even further crowds; particularly if you’re visiting major attractions. There’s nothing worse than having to queue for hours once you arrive at a popular attraction. So, if you hate crowds October is a good time to visit those busy places.
The weather is still pleasant
While it’s certainly colder during October, it’s still relatively pleasant. You can also wrap up warm for those crisp days. It’s much warmer than it will be in the wintertime and much less sweaty and sticky than the hot summer months. The colder weather also gives you the opportunity to take advantage of autumn fashion, considered by many as the most fashionable season.
The roads will be quieter and more reliable
The roads during summer can be ridiculously busy, while the roads in winter can be really unreliable. However, travel during October and you’ll find they are both quiet and reliable.
Of course, you’ll need to make sure you have a reliable vehicle too. If you’re planning on going on a road trip for example, you might want to consider upgrading to a newer car if your current model could do with being replaced.
You’ll save money
Finally, another benefit of travelling during October is that you could potentially save a lot of money. If you’re planning on staying over in a hotel or holiday cottage, the prices will be much lower than in peak tourist season. So, you could enjoy a luxurious break away for a fraction of the cost.
As you can see, taking a trip around the UK in October can be a great idea. The cost saving benefits alone are worthwhile. Just make sure if you are planning on taking a road trip, that your car is serviced, or upgraded if needed.
